Asheville Wins Series Finale 11-2

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (August 28, 2022) — The Asheville Tourists took home a 11-2 victory in the series finale against the Winston-Salem Dash.

Chase Solesky got the start in the series finale, his second outing against Asheville this week, and he came out hot. He allowed just a single in the first inning with two strikeouts, then spun back-to-back perfect innings.

The Dash lineup rewarded Solesky in the bottom of the third, which began with Caberea Weaver getting hit by a pitch. James Beard drew a walk after Weaver, then both men successfully stole third and second base. After a lineout, Alsander Womack lifted a fly ball into centerfield. Weaver tagged up and scored from third, as the throw came in to third base. However, it sailed high and into the Asheville dugout, as Beard was awarded home to make it a 2-0 Dash lead.

Solesky continued to deal in the fourth and fifth innings, sending six consecutive Tourist hitters back to the dugout to preserve a 2-0 edge.

Chase Plymell relieved Solesky to begin the top of the sixth, capping off a tremendous outing for the righty. Solesky surrendered just one base hit across five scoreless innings, while not walking a batter and registering three strikeouts. However, Asheville broke through against Plymell. Justin Williams led off with a single, then Jose Alvarez drove him in with a double down the right field line. Kenedy Corona followed, and he crushed a two run homer into the Appalachian Mountain Brew-pen to give Asheville a 3-2 lead. Colin Barber kept things rolling with a single, then was balked to second base. A groundout pushed him to third, then Joey Loperfido drove him in on a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 4-2 Asheville.

The Tourists extended their lead in the top of the seventh. Christian Gonzalez singled to open the frame, but Everett Hazelwood retired the next two batters. Jose Alvarez then singled with two outs, before Corona came through again with a two-run double into centerfield. Asheville then brought up Zach Daniels as a pinch-hitter, and he promptly launched a two-run blast into right field, putting the Tourists ahead 8-2. Later in the frame, Luis Santana drove another run home to make it 9-2.

Asheville went on to add another run in both the eighth and ninth innings, as they took the series finale 11-2. Kasey Ford got the win with Ryan Gusto locking down a save with his four innings of relief, with Chase Plymell taking the loss.
