San Jose, CA – The Ports outhit the San Jose Giants but couldn’t get anything going with runners in scoring position as Stockton dropped a 5-0 decision on Wednesday afternoon at Excite Ballpark in the South Bay.

Wednesday’s game marked the sixth time the Ports have been shutout this season.

In a scoreless game through three and a half, the Giants (66-62) took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. San Jose loaded the bases with one out on two walks and a hit by pitch issued by Stockton starter Eduardo Rivera. With Dallas Woolfolk on in relief, Turner Hill lined a single to center field to score two runs giving the Giants a 2-0 advantage.

San Jose added on in the bottom of the seventh inning. Alexander Suarez led off with a single off Ports reliever Franck De La Rosa, and advanced to third with nobody out after a stolen base and passed ball. On ball four to Hill, Suarez scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0 and Hill went all the way to second base on the play. With one out, Justin Wishkoski launched a two-run homer to left field to give San Jose a 5-0 lead.

The Ports (48-80) advanced a runner to third base twice with one out but could not capitalize. In the top of the first inning Jonah Hill made it to third with a leadoff single, stolen base and tagging up on a fly ball to center, but Giants’ starter Nomar Medina struck out Henry Bolte and got Jose Mujica to fly out to center field to end the threat.

In the seventh Bolte singled to right field with one out and stole both second and third, but reliever Tyler Vogel struck out Mujica and Myles Naylor back-to-back to end the inning.

Medina (6-8) got the win for San Jose with five strikeouts over five shutout innings. For the Ports, Rivera (2-7) took the loss allowing two runs on just one hit with four walks and six strikeouts over 3.1 innings.

With the series even at one game apiece, the Ports will look to take the edge in this six-game set in game three on Thursday night at Excite Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
