Fitzgerald Named PCL Player of the Week

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento River Cats infielder top-20 San Francisco Giants prospect Tyler Fitzgerald was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for May 8-14. Fitzgerald played in all six games against the Salt Lake Bees last week for the River Cats, batting safely and scoring at least one run in all six contests while hitting .435 (10-for-23) with eight runs scored, three doubles, one triple, three home runs and six RBI.

Last week’s span included his first career Triple-A home run on May 10 before homering again in each of the following two games, making him the first River Cat to leave the yard in three consecutive games. Additionally, his streak of six straight games scoring at least one run is tied for the second-longest such streak by a River Cat this season. Yesterday, the Springfield, Ill. native went 3-for-3 at the dish with a pair of doubles and triple, becoming the third River Cat this season to log three or more extra base hits in a game.

Since his call up to Sacramento on May 3, Fitzgerald has posted hits in 10 of his 11 contests which includes a trio of multi-hit games during this six-game series against the Bees. In those 11 games at Triple-A, Fitzgerald is batting .326 (14-for-43) with an on-base percentage of .412 and an OPS of 1.086. To this point in his professional career, he has logged a batting average of .257 (291-for-1133) with 73 doubles, 11 triples, 46 home runs and 171 RBI in 103 games over four professional seasons.

Drafted by the Giants in the fourth round (116th overall) of the 2019 draft out of Louisville, this is the second award Fitzgerald has earned this season as he also earned the Eastern League Player of the Month award for his early season performance with Double-A Richmond for the month of April. With Richmond, he hit .324 with six doubles, two home runs, and nine RBI. In 2021, Fitzgerald was named an MiLB.com Organization All-Star as well as a NWL Postseason All-Star while with the Eugene Emeralds (High-A).
