BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Biscuits (67-56) returned to their winning ways on Thursday night at Regions Field by blowing out the Birmingham Barons (46-77) by a score of 12-1.
Ky Bush (2-7) surrendered the first two runs of the game during the second inning when Mason Auer sent a sharp line drive to left field for an RBI-double and Erik Ostberg hit into an RBI-forceout. On the flip side, Mason Montgomery held the Barons scoreless over four innings, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out four.
Action picked back up in the fifth when Dru Baker sent a line drive to right field for an RBI-triple. A throwing error by Sebastian Rivero allowed another run to score as Montgomery took a 4-0 lead into the sixth.
The game was blown open in the top-frame when the Biscuits added four more runs to the scoreboard. Auer started the scoring run with a single that was followed by a sacrifice fly from Heriberto Hernandez. A pair of doubles for Tristan Peters and Erik Ostberg capped off the inning and made the score 8-0.
Auer and Hernandez struck again with a pair of doubles that brought in three more runs, with the latter bringing in two. The Barons loaded the bases in the bottom-frame but were only able to bring in one run on a single from Luis Mieses.
With the score 11-1 going into the top of the eighth, Junior Caminero launched his 15th home run of the season to extend the lead to 11 runs. The third baseman successfully extended his league-leading on-base streak to 34 games, which is now the third-longest streak in Biscuits history.
The Biscuits pitching staff dominated from start to finish, allowing six hits and four walks while striking out seven. The performance allowed Antonio Jimenez (1-0) to secure the victory while Bush took the loss as the Butter and Blue secured a 12-1 victory.
The Biscuits and Barons will resume their series on Friday, September 1 with first pitch set for 7:05 PM CT. The featured pitching matchup pits Patrick Wicklander (3-2) against Mason Adams for Birmingham.
The Biscuits return to Riverwalk Stadium for one more regular season series against the Chattanooga Lookouts starting on September 5.
