The Lynchburg Hillcats could not overcome an early big inning for the Fredericksburg Nationals on Wednesday night losing 6-5.

A four run second inning for the Nationals helped carry them to victory as they took the lead and never looked back. Lynchburg would pick up a pair of home runs, one from Angel Genao and the other from Jose Devers.

Each of the new Hillcats making their debut also picked up their first career hits.

Lynchburg scored in each of the first three innings. Genao homered in the first and Devers blasted one in the third with a bases loaded walk in-between. However, the four-run second had the Hillcats playing catch-up for the rest of the night.

Fredericksburg would score two more in the fifth inning as a trio of walks and a hit batter would drive home the pair of runs.

In the sixth, Lynchburg would get those two runs back as Angel Genao would pick up his second RBI of the night on a single to score Cavenaugh. The next batter, C.J. Kayfus, would pick up his first professional hit and RBI with a grounder up the middle.

From there, the final three innings would go quietly as neither team could crack the scoreboard. Lynchburg and Fredericksburg will face off for game three on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Bank of the James Stadium.
