(FORT WAYNE, IN) – The Lake County Captains (28-25) and Fort Wayne TinCaps (21-32) both exchanged the lead twice, with Fort Wayne taking their third and final advantage in the sixth, to win 5-4.

The TinCaps started the scoring with two in the first. After a bunt single, Brandon Venzuela hammered a ball over the right field wall. Captains starter Mason Hickman would bounce back getting a strikeout to end the inning, two in the second, and two more in the third.

Lake County added run support in the fourth, posting three runs. Petey Halpin led off the inning with a walk, Alexfri Planez followed up with a double to left-center. That brought up Raynel Delgado who drilled a ball to deep right-center field scoring both runs and ended up a third base, with his second triple of 2022. Micael Ramirez would knock the go-ahead run, lining a single into left field.

Hickman would continue into the fifth inning and forced a flyout for out number one. The next flyball would leave the ballpark, Agustin Ruiz lifted a ball over the right-field wall to knot up the ball game. Davis Sharpe would finish the bottom of the fifth. The sixth inning was the last inning with runs, three combined.

In the top of the sixth, Lake County first three batters reached via a base on balls with Christian Cairo, advancing on a wild pitch. The frame would end with a strikeout and 5-3 double play.

Fort Wayne took the lead in the home half of the sixth. With one out, the Tincaps smacked two doubles, the second tied up the game. After a runner reached third, Angel Solarte hit a high hopper up the middle, which was fielded by shortstop Angel Martinez whose only play was to first, and scored the fifth run.

In the final three innings, Lake County only had one hit, a double from Angel Martinez in the top of the ninth. A strikeout, line out and a groundout, ended the effort and stranded the eighth total runner on base.

Tomorrow Friday, June 10th will see the Captains debut of Rodney Boone. He gets the start as Lake County plays Fort Wayne in game four, with first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
