(FORT WAYNE, IN) – The Lake County Captains (28-26) would have the tying runner on base in the top of the ninth for the second straight night, but did not score the equalizer, losing 2-1 to the Fort Wayne TinCaps (22-33) on an overcast Friday night at Parkview Stadium.

Rodney Boone began his career as a Captain, earning his first start. The left-hander’s first batter faced, he struck out. The second was a home run to deep left-field, the lone run Boone allowed. The San Francisco, CA native totaled eight strikeouts, over five innings, throwing 85 pitches, 52 strikes.

Lake County would tie up the game, in the top of the third. Gabriel Rodriguez walked, to begin the inning, and Angel Martinez followed up with a base knock. Joe Naranjo then stepped in and delivered his 29th RBI of the season on a single to right field.

The frame ended prematurely after an attempted pick off of Naranjo that led to a rundown and then a throw home that tagged out Martinez trying to sneak home.

In the middle three innings, the Captains’ had at least one base runner reach each half inning. In the fourth, Petey Halpin singled and Raynel Delgado walked putting two on, with no outs. A groundout, strikeout and flyout ended that opportunity.

Raymond Burgos entered in the sixth, and despite walking two batters the right-hander completed a scoreless two innings. The bottom of the eighth, the TinCaps broke the tie.

After an error at shortstop, that put a runner on, Brandon Valenzuela slammed a triple to deep left-center field to make it a 2-1 game. Burgos completed three innings, allowing one run that was not earned.

In the top of the ninth, the Captains had Johnathan Rodriguez reach with a single, but he’d only get to first after a strikeout ended the contest.

Either the Captains or TinCaps will take a series lead following game five tomorrow Saturday, June 11th. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
