NASHVILLE – Austin Allen launched a go-ahead two-run home run in the ninth inning on Tuesday, but it wasn’t enough, as the Nashville Sounds walked-off with a 5-4 win over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at First Horizon Park.
With Nashville (79-64, 39-30) ahead 3-2, reliever Clayton Andrews (5-0) walked Jacob Amaya to begin the ninth. After a strikeout and ground out, Allen launched a two-run bomb over the stands in right to give Jacksonville (69-75, 37-33) a 4-3 advantage.
However, the Jumbo Shrimp ran into trouble in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, reliever Geoff Hartlieb (2-6) walked Abraham Toro. Patrick Dorrian singled Toro to third, and on a strikeout of Chris Roller, stole second. Former Jumbo Shrimp catcher Brian Navarreto then laced a ball down the left line to plate both runners for the Sounds to win 5-4.
Jacksonville grabbed the lead initially in the second. Consecutive singles by Dane Myers, Allen and Peyton Burdick scored the game’s first run. After a ground out, Jordan Groshans walked to load the bases. Two batters later, Jake Mangum beat out a ground ball to shortstop to plate Allen and make it 2-0.
The score remained that way until the fifth. Dorrian singled with one out. After a strikeout, Navarreto cracked a two-run shot to tie the game.
The Sounds then grabbed the lead in the seventh. Tyler Black tripled to lead off and scored on Toro’s sacrifice fly to right.
