Jacksonville concludes season with 8-4 loss

NASHVILLE – Charles Leblanc homered and drove in a pair on Sunday, but the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp closed the 2023 season with an 8-4 loss to the Nashville Sounds at First Horizon Park.
After Leblanc homered off Nashville (83-65, 43-31) reliever Luis Contreras (4-2) to tie the game in the top of the fifth, former Jumbo Shrimp Monte Harrison homered off Jacksonville (70-79, 38-37) starter Jake Walters (0-4) to put the Sounds up for good.
Nashville extended their lead from there. Chris Roller led off the sixth and stealing second and third. He scored two batters later on Cam Devanney’s RBI double.
In the seventh, Joey Wiemer walked with one out before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Abraham Toro doubled him in. Roller followed with an RBI single to set the final margin at 8-4.
The Jumbo Shrimp initially took the lead in their first at-bats. Jake Mangum reached second on an error to begin the contest. Following a walk, a double play ball moved Mangum to third. Mangum then scored on a wild pitch.
The Sounds were able to tie in the bottom of the first. Garrett Mitchell notched a leadoff single. Following a line out, Mitchell sped to third on Tyler Black’s single before scoring on a Wiemer sacrifice fly.
Back-to-back walks by Peyton Burdick and Brian Miller jumpstarted the second. Burdick went to third on a failed double steal. C.J. Hinojosa followed with a sacrifice fly to put Jacksonville ahead 2-1.
Dane Myers drew a two-out walk in the third and Jerar Encarnacion singled. Leblanc completed the two-out rally with an RBI single.
Nashville gained their first lead in the fourth. With one out, Toro doubled and Roller was hit by a pitch. Another former Jumbo Shrimp, Payton Henry, smashed a three-run bomb to put the Sounds ahead 4-3.
