From Frank Grant to Luke Easter to Hector Lopez, Black players have had a profound impact on the history of the Buffalo Bisons franchise.
In 2022, the Bisons joined teams throughout Minor League Baseball in a celebration titled, "The Nine," a new, Black-community focused outreach platform specifically designed to honor and celebrate the historic impact numerous Black baseball pioneers made on the sport. We honored the accomplishments of Frank, Luke, Hector and many more at our game on Sunday, June 26, and will continue to on this page on Bisons.com, presented by Nissan.
"The Nine" is named for the number Jackie Robinson wore during his only season playing in MiLB with the Triple-A Montreal Royals in 1946, a season where the legend also played against the Bisons here in Buffalo.

Of course, it would be impossible to list all of the great Black players who have played a role in shaping a Bisons franchise history that has now reach 137 seasons… but we wanted to do our best to share some of the many stories and feats of some of the best to ever call themselves Bisons.
