BRADENTON, Fla. — The Marauders lost a rain-shortened game, 5-2, to the Dunedin Blue Jays in six-and-a-half innings on Thursday night at LECOM Park.

The loss drops the Marauders (31-20, 60-56) into second place in the FSL West, a half-game behind first-place Dunedin (31-19, 59-57). Bradenton had held sole or partial possession of first place since August 4.

Marauders starter Carlos Jimenez and the Blue Jays’ Geison Urbaez dueled with three scoreless innings to begin the game. Jimenez struck out five across his first three frames, working around two walks and a single, while Urbaez allowed three singles and a pair of walks but benefitted from two double-play grounders off the bat of rehabber Henry Davis.

In the top of the fourth, the Blue Jays jumped on Jimenez. Three straight single by Peyton Williams, Estiven Machado, and Devonte Brown loaded the bases with none out, and Jimenez followed with walks to Dylan Rock and Jerry Huntzinger, forcing home one run each for a 2-0 Dunedin lead. Yunior Thibo entered in relief and struck out Ryan McCarthy before a fielder’s choice grounder by Michael Turconi plated a third run. Alan Roden then lined out to left field on a diving catch by Tanner Tredaway.

The fifth saw two more Dunedin runs cross off Thibo for a 5-0 visitors lead, as Brown lined an RBI-single and Rock drove in a run with a fielder’s choice grounder.

The Marauders fought back in the sixth against reliever Alex Amalfi. Nick Cimillo led off with a single and later scored on a Termarr Johnson sacrifice fly to left, and Bubba Chandler drew a two-out walk and came home on a Deivis Nadal bloop single, cutting Bradenton’s deficit to 5-2.

At the time the game was delayed in the top of the seventh inning, the Blue Jays had two runners on base with two out. The game was declared final after an approximately one-hour delay.

The series continues Friday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at LECOM Park. The Marauders have yet to announce a starting pitcher, while RHP Lazaro Estrada will start for the Blue Jays.
